Friday Lunchtime Concerts

                       NEXT CONCERT

FRIDAY 24th October 2014

James Woodrow, violin

Royal Northern College of Music graduate James Woodrow performs on both modern and baroque violins. This has led him to a very varied performing career, as a chamber musician, ensemble and orchestral musician, encompassing diverse repertoire.

Having been invited to perform with the RNCM Sinfonia for the Cantiere Internazionale d’arte Festival in Montepulciano, Italy, in his final year James also undertook a professional access scheme performing with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra.

Following his undergraduate studies in Birmingham, Daniel Browell has studied in Paris, London and Chicago. He has given recitals around the U.K, Europe and in the US, since his London Southbank recital in the Purcell Room in 2006.

Daniel makes regular concerto appearances and recently completed a cycle of all five Beethoven concerti with the Birmingham based Eroica Camerata. Future plans include a recording of contemporary British composers, to feature the Philip Venables studies that Daniel premiered at the Purcell Room.

The programme includes works by Mozart and Beethoven.

All concerts begin at 12.30pm.

Tickets for the concert are £5 and available on the door. Everyone is welcome.

Pre-concert lunches of soup and sandwiches are available in the Church Hall from 11.30am. The church and its shop/café are open all day, so you are welcome to browse amongst books, gifts and CDs or enjoy light refreshments before or after the concert

Many of our performers are studying or have studied at Chetham's School of Music, the Royal Northern College of Music or other prestigious UK music institutions. A lot are already established as noted performers, not only in the UK but overseas, and are winners of music prizes, awards and scholarships.  A number are from overseas. Quite a few are based in the North West but others travel significant distances to be with us.

This series of weekly classical lunchtime concerts began nine years ago and we have organised about 44 concerts each year between mid-September and mid- July. On the 11 April 2014 we reached the 400th concert. We aim to provide a wide range of high quality music - instruments and voices - at a very reasonable price.

The church and its coffee shop (at the West end of the church) are open all day, so you are welcome to browse amongst books, gifts and CDs or enjoy light refreshments before or after the concert. In addition, from 11.30am to 12.30pm, soup and sandwiches are available in the Blackburne Hall, just across the car park to the north side of the church.

WANT TO PERFORM AT ONE OF OUR CONCERTS?

Although several of our artists return on a regular basis we are always extending the number of musicians who come to perform.  If you are interested in offering your services for a concert and have had sound training and performance experience, the Rector, Dr John Findon, would be delighted to hear from you. Please send a short CV and contact details (address, phone and email) to the Parish Office. The email address is: bpc.office@tiscali.co.uk

We are able to pay a modest fee to those who perform.
