ELLAND SILVER BAND POTTED HISTORY
Elland Silver Band Was Formed around 1850 and is one of the oldest brass bands in the country and apart from the wear years has been a constant part of the local community of Elland near Halifax
Over the years the band has had much success in competition and is known for its innovative concert programmes.
In January 2017 for the first time in its History the band was promoted to the championship section and in March 2017 the band competed in the Yorkshire Regional Championship and were placed a very creditable 9th out of 13 bands, this was a fantastic achievement as they were competing against some of the World’s most famous bands such as Black Dyke and Brighouse & Rastrick .
Over the years the band has had the great privilege of working with some very fine Musical Directors . Dr Roy Newsome, Geoffrey Whitham, , Professor Philip Wilby, James Shepherd and David Essex just to name a few.
The present Music Director is Mr Daniel Brooks ,Daniel was appointed Musical Director in July 2013and is still leading the band today under the leadership of Daniel the band has progressed and today is recognised as one of Yorkshire’s finest Brass Bands.
In 2010 the band was awarded The Queens Award for Voluntary Service the MBE for Voluntary Groups. The only Brass Band to have received this award.
Attached to the band is a thriving youth section with over 100 children attending weekly lessons.
The band is looking forward to making its debut performance at Bury Parish Church.
