May Day (in this case, 1 May, not the Bank Holiday) triggers all sorts of rather wonderful, earthy, deeply rooted traditions; choirs singing from church roof tops, Morris Dancing, May Queens, Beehive moving
Firstly I must begin with a thank you to MU members for their help and support on Mothering Sunday and all the lovely cakes provided for the refreshments following the morning service.
In March in lieu of our regular meeting we enjoyed a visit to Bury Art Gallery to see the Victoria Wood exhibition and it is well worth a visit if you haven’t already been.
Here’s something I have learnt recently. Easter more commonly happens in April than in March. And, for those who like their facts, there is a possible 35 day window in which Easter can happen; 22 March to 25 April.
As usual our first meeting of the year is the AGM and 25 members attended. The Rector chaired the meeting and began by welcoming everyone followed by prayers.
Ask most clergy and they will say that they rather like Lent. There is something about the permission the season gives the practicing Christian to be consciously and openly disciplined.

Paul’s letter to the Christians in Rome has this line in his opening paragraph; ‘To all God’s beloved in Rome, who are called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.’ (Romans 1.7)
