Healing Ministry
The name Jesus means, among other things, “God heals.”
Throughout the Gospels we see Jesus constantly engaged in healing — restoring people in body, mind, and spirit. When he sends out his disciples, he gives them a clear and simple instruction: “preach the good news and heal the sick.” Healing, then, is not an optional extra in the life of the Church, but a continuing part of Christ’s ministry entrusted to his people.
At Bury Parish Church we seek to respond to that calling by offering healing ministry in prayer, presence, and sacrament, always trusting in God’s love and compassion.
Prayer and Pastoral Visiting
One way we offer healing ministry is through prayer.
We pray regularly for those who ask for prayer, holding their needs before God with care and confidentiality.
When requested, members of our ministry team also visit people in their homes, in hospital, or wherever they may be, offering prayer, pastoral support, and — when appropriate — the ministry of Holy Communion. These visits are offered gently and respectfully, according to each person’s wishes.
If you, or someone you care for, would like to receive prayer or a pastoral visit, please contact the parish office. You do not need to be a regular worshipper to ask for this ministry.
Laying on of Hands in Church
We also offer the ministry of laying on of hands for Christian healing within our worshipping life.
On the Fourth Sunday of each month, a trained and prayerful team offers this ministry as part of the 10.00am Eucharist. After receiving Communion or a blessing, individuals are invited to move to the South Chapel, where prayer is offered quietly and respectfully, either for themselves or on behalf of others.
This ministry is open to all and is offered in a calm, unhurried, and confidential setting.
God’s Desire for Wholeness
God desires each of us to be whole — in mind, body, and spirit.
Healing is not always about physical cure alone; it may involve comfort, strength, peace, reconciliation, or a renewed sense of hope. God seeks to heal the fractures in our lives, whatever form they take.
Each person’s journey is unique, and healing comes in many ways. We believe that all are invited to receive this extraordinary gift, and that no one is beyond God’s loving care.
